Recently Georgia football has been adding a lot of talented recruits to their defensive backfield. One such recruit is Jalen Kimber. Let’s take a closer look at just what Kimber brings to the Dawgs defense.

Georgia football currently has 13 members in the 2020 recruiting class. According to 247Sports team rankings, the Bulldogs have the No. 4 overall and No. 3 SEC classes. One of the members is Jalen Kimber, a highly touted cornerback out of Texas.

Kimber is a 6-0 170-pound cornerback from Arlington, Tx. He is a 4-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, but with a 0.9610 score, I believe he could eventually earn a 5th star if he continues to shine at camp and in his final season of high school football.

At The Opening, Jalen ran the 40 in 4.47 seconds, the shuttle in 4 flat, and he had a 41 inch vertical. He is a very physically gifted athlete, but how does that translate on the field?

Well, Kimber can play both inside and outside, he can play both press and off coverages.

Kimber has even played some safety, which he can do because he is a sure tackler.

According to MaxPreps, as a junior Kimber had 34 total tackles, 26 of those solo, one tackle for loss, three interceptions, and six pass deflections.

My only real criticism of Kimber is in his punch when in press coverage. Often he slaps at his man with one arm rather than punching him in the chest with both.

I’m sure that will get fixed shortly after arriving in Athens as it is something that can be coached.

Head coach Kirby Smart likes for his cornerbacks to be physical and I’m sure that will be one of the first things he addresses.

From what I can see on his tape I would predict Kimber to the Star or Nickel role for Georgia. This position seems to fit his skill set better than any other.

If you’re playing the Star means you have to be very quick in space and you have to be able to tackle well as you will be responsible for helping in the run game.

Overall I love this recruit. He is a very good tackler, tracks the ball well in the air, and he is very aggressive. All the things you look for in a defensive player.

dark. Next. Nakobe Dean is Georgia Football’s next defensive general

With another year left in high school, it is exciting to think he could get even better than he is now. As I said before, I could easily see him being an elite recruit by the time he steps on Georgia’s campus.
