Number two – Aaron Murray

Aaron Murray is the greatest Georgia quarterback without an SEC Championship. It was hardly his fault, falling a yard short in the final seconds against Alabama in 2012 after a miracle pass deflection by Alabama’s C J Mosely to end a sterling last minute drive.

Lacking the wins to attach the memories too, Murray’s heroics are forgotten. The scramble through the teeth of the Auburn defense for the go ahead score in 2013, followed by the Tray Matthews aided miracle Auburn touchdown that ripped his third win over the Tigers from his grasp is emblematic of Murray’s frustrations.

Cruel fate

Because of Lady Luck’s cruelty, Murray rises to only number two on our list.

It’s hardly fair. Aaron Murray is the SEC’s all-time passing yardage and touchdowns leader, holds the Georgia record for pass efficiency, and his 114 touchdown passes ties for seventh-most in college football history.  He is the only Georgia quarterback with four 3,000 yard seasons, and owns Georgia football career passing yardage, passing touchdowns, and all-purpose touchdown records.

Rival domination

As a freshman, Murray broke David Greene’s freshman passing record with 3,049 yards, thew 24 touchdown passes, and only eight interceptions.

During that freshman season, Murray lost to Florida in overtime. It was one of only three losses to the Big Three of Florida, Auburn and Georgia Tech. Against the Jackets, he never lost. Domination of the Georgia football rivals, especially the Florida Gators he spurned as a Tampa high school recruit, alone endears Murray to the Bulldog faithful.
