Georgia Football set to host the stars in massive recruiting weekend

Georgia football has a star-studded visitors list for the open recruiting weekend in the last week of July. Can the Dawgs land a couple of commitments after the next couple of days? We think so.

The last weekend of July means the recruiting dead period is over and that Georgia football and other universities can host recruits again.

On July 24, according to the NCAA’s website, was the final day of the dead period. Now the recruiting process goes into a quiet period.

“A quiet period is that period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution’s campus,” the NCAA’s website said. “No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations may be made during the quiet period.”

That quiet period lasts until the end of July 31 before there is another dead period from Aug. 1-31. There is one exception to the rule, and that is its a quiet period 48 hours before a home contest that occurs in August or on Sept. 1 or 2 through 48 hours after the end of the game.

While all that sounds a bit confusing, it is essentially saying that if you have a game before the quiet period opens on Sept.1, there are ways for recruits to visit, so teams don’t lose out because their schedule fell that way.

This weekend is crucial for teams to get players on campus because it’s the last time for another month before they can host them.

So in recent years, this weekend has been a massive one for the Dawgs, and 2019 should prove the same.

Last year, George Pickens came to visit this weekend and was an Auburn commit at the time, and we all know how that ended up going for the Dawgs. So this weekend could be the pivotal point in the recruiting process for one of these guys, and it comes down to how they enjoy this weekend.

According to Dawg Nation’s article, the Dawgs now have ten 5-stars between the 2020 and 2021 class visiting this weekend. Yes, double-digit 5-stars are coming for the only weekend in the dead period, and they’re coming to Athens, and that is huge.

Of the current 2020 class, four uncommitted 5-stars are coming this weekend, along with the two five-stars committed to Georgia. Those guys are the ones that Sentell confirmed. There is no telling who else might show up this weekend too.

Here are the prospects and current commits from the 2020 classes that Dawg Nation writer Jeff Sentell confirmed that were coming this weekend.

There are 2021 prospects coming as well, but the key this weekend is impressing those top five names on that list. Like I said above, those are the ones confirmed coming to Athens. I believe we may see some players go to Clemson first then head to Georgia for the rest of the weekend.

Kids have six days to make the most of this quiet period, and the Dawgs seem to be doing just that.

One thing that does surprise me about who isn’t on that list is 5-star tight end Arik Gilbert from Rome. While it surprises me, I also think he finds a way to get to campus this weekend. Another name not on the list is Kendall Milton, however, with him making his decision on where he will go to school on July 29 at 7 p.m. according to his 247Sports profile.

I think Milton has his mind made up and didn’t need to take any more visits. He wants to enjoy his senior season, and I don’t blame him at all.

Tank Bigsby is another name that might end up popping up this weekend at Georgia, but I’m not a 100 percent sure yet.

I’m thrilled to see Burch and Evans on this list. With these two guys coming to Georgia this weekend, words cannot describe how big this is and how incredible it would be if they both ended up committing to the Dawgs.

They are two pretty quiet guys, so we probably won’t know much from this weekend, but I like how the staff got them to campus. Georgia’s taking two running backs, and this could seal the deal on the second back of the 2020 class.

I’m not changing my mind that Milton commits to the Dawgs on Monday. Another name I’m glad to see is Washington because he is one hot commodity and every team wants him. He wants to play tight end in college, and Georgia needs a big guy like that with the good guys.

I will say the Dawgs may end up with two 5-star tight ends in the 2020 class along with two 5-star running backs.

The Dawgs are far from finished with this recruiting class and have about nine to ten spots left to fill. Of the seven prospects here, I believe that the Dawgs could land at least five of them. If Georgia did that, then it would have seven 5-stars in the class.

I think the Dawgs could end up with around nine 5-stars if Georgia can land all of its top priority guys, which is incredible. There are also guys currently committed that could end up earning that fifth star by National Signing Day.

However, for that to happen, the Dawgs must hit a home run with this weekend. With the star-studded list of prospects, I do not doubt that Georgia will attack the day and show these kids that Athens is their next home and where they’ll thrive in college.
