Top five traditions for Georgia football
National Signing Day
While this isn’t a typical game day tradition, it comes in at No. 2 on my traditions list.
In recent years we all see what kind of classes Kirby Smart and his staff put together and it is fantastic to watch.
However, National Signing Day has been my birthday present for years. It used to be the first Wednesday of February, but now there are two days, one in December and then the usual date.
My aunt introduced me to National Signing Day when I was 10-years-old, and I became obsessed.
While some might not think that this day is a tradition, I know a few Dawg fans that would disagree.
You know, grown men who wake up at 5 a.m. just to get to the Blind Pig for breakfast and find a spot that they will sit at for the next six-plus hours to see where high school kids choose to go to school.
Those are my kind of Dawg fans. I’ve been there, and haven’t missed a National Signing day since I was 10. It’s a tradition for the recruiting junkies and like having another Christmas.
Now it’s like having Christmas before Christmas actually comes to town.
Some of my favorite memories are pulling in 5-star Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Before that signing Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford.
Now with great memories come negative ones, like when a guy who we all think is coming to Georgia chooses another school. *coughs into hand* Derrick Brown *coughs again*.
Anyway, the guys at UGASports host an event at the Blind Pig, and now they do some things at the Battery in Atlanta for the festivities.
While we may not all gather at the tiny restaurant in Athens that we all used to, it’s still one of my favorite traditions to be a part of each year.
