Three Teams Georgia Football must play in the future

Georgia football continues to add tougher non-conference games to its schedule. Earlier this year we saw the Dawgs add some tough teams, but here are three other schools that should faceoff with each other.

Georgia football and other college football teams have started to steer away from the ‘cupcake’ games. Now teams are matching up with other Power 5 schools to increase their strength of schedules.

To get into the College Football Playoffs, the committee looks at how each teams schedule is and consider it as to who will be one of the final four schools.

We’ve seen in the last couple of years how teams get left out for various reasons. So Georgia’s starting to schedule tougher opponents.

While I like some of the opponents the Dawgs have scheduled, there are teams like Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and other schools that could produce incredible college football games.

According to FB Schedules, here is Georgia’s future non-conference games. I’m not including Georgia Tech because we play them yearly.

2020: Virginia (in ATL), ULM, and ETSU

2021: San Jose State and UAB

2022: Oregon and Kent State

2023:  at Oklahoma

2024: Clemson (in ATL)

2025: at UCLA and Charlotte

2026:  UCLA

2027: at FSU

2028: at Texas and FSU

2029: Texas and at Clemson

2030: Clemson

2031: Oklahoma

2032: Clemson

2033: at Clemson

So the Dawgs added multiple series with Clemson and home-and-home series with Oklahoma, UCLA, Texas, and FSU. I like the mixture of teams added to this list. However, there are three teams that I would like to see Georgia play.

The best thing Georgia did was scheduling multiple matchups with Clemson. It used to be a huge rivalry in the 1980s, and it needs to be reborn with these two teams being at the top of college football again.

While there are a ton of different schools I could choose from, these are the first three that came to mind.

Miami

Georgia leads the all-time series 7-4-1 against Miami. However, the last time these two teams faced off Miami won in 1966.

It’s hard to believe that these two teams haven’t played against each other since 1966. So I think it would be cool to see these two teams go head-to-head.

Georgia and Miami are always in battles for players, and now it’s time to see them on the field. It would have been the most ideal to see these two teams faceoff when Mark Richt was head coach, but he retired.

Anyway, I think seeing these two offenses face-off would be exciting and good for college football. These two have a ton of rich history in college football, and more matchups between them need to happen.

The Hurricanes have been in the top 25 the last few years again, and adding them to the schedule would give the Dawgs an opponent who has finished in the top-25 the previous seven seasons. So it would provide Georgia either a top-25 win or loss, helping out both teams cases.

UCF

The next team, I think Georgia should take on is UCF because these two teams have only played twice and each hold a win against the other. UCF won the most recent game in 2010 as the Golden Knights defeated the Dawgs 10-6 in the Liberty Bowl.

Georgia beat UCF in 1999 24-23 as they hosted the Golden Knights in Athens for the first time.

Why should the Dawgs take on Central Florida? I think they should play because UCF needs to play against a real team that’ll knock them down a few notches.

UCF has gotten quite the big head the last couple of seasons and believes that they have a national championship.

Georgia needs to host the Golden Knights and give them a tail whooping and put them back into their place. While I believe UCF is a talented program and deserves to be given a chance, but only provided that chance if they start scheduling better schools.

Florida and UCF couldn’t agree on a 2-and-1 contract so I don’t know that UCF would want to add a similar situation with Georgia. While scheduling UCF wouldn’t necessarily help Georgia’s strength of schedule, I think it would be a fun matchup to watch, and it would draw a crowd.

Ohio State

The final school I want to see a home-and-home series against is Ohio State.

Georgia and Ohio State have played against each other only one time. The Dawgs defeated the Buckeyes 21-14 in the 1993 Florida Citrus Bowl beating Heisman hopeful, Kirk Herbstreit and his team.

It’s crazy that these two schools haven’t played against each other more. However, out of all three of the opponents I want Georgia to schedule games with, I think Ohio State is at the very top.

This game would likely be a top-5 or top-10 matchup and one that would likely draw ESPN Game Day. These two programs are at the top of the college football world, and this matchup would bring in a ton of money not to mention it would be a game recruits would show up to at either location.

Georgia and Ohio State need to make this happen because it’ll end up being one of those instant classics. Not to mention it would be a bucket list game for me to see a game in Ohio Stadium, and I feel like a lot of Georgia fans would agree.

There are plenty of other schools that I would love to see Georgia schedule in future seasons, and it seems like the Dawgs are already on the right track. However, I hope one of the three above matchups happen sooner than later.
