It’s not just the Georgia football freshman that continue to get hype from the media; it’s guys that have been on the team for years. That hype is real my friends, and it should excite you more than it already does.
As we get closer to the start of Georgia football’s 2019 season, the hype surrounding some of the players continues to grow.
The Dawgs not only have freshmen stepping up to get on the field, but some veterans have finally decided to step up this fall camp.
While some fans continue to speculate whether or not they should go ahead and jump on the hype train as well, I’m here to ease that speculation. Jump on the train; it’s time to get serious about this thing we call football.
I know as a Georgia fan, we drink the Koolaid every year and always manage to find a way to get hurt, however, 2019 feels a bit different.
Instead of seeing arrests and suspensions happening, head coach Kirby Smart isn’t accepting anything less than perfect. He wants players who are playing for each other, not just themselves.
The culture is something that has significantly changed since Smart took over, he finally has his guys on the team, and there are only a few Mark Richt stragglers.
Georgia started fall camp a little over a week ago now, and reports of freshmen standouts continue to flood the interwebs.
I mentioned back in the summer that George Pickens and Nakobe Dean will be two people to watch, and I’m standing by that statement.
I’ve read reports from all over the media about how these two continue to stand out and make plays in practice. The latest is that incredible one-handed catch from Pickens during the first fall scrimmage this past Saturday.
George Pickens is UNREAL!😳 @FootballUGA

Then Richard LeCounte compared him to A.J. Green. I have to agree with the safety on that one, he has the size and the capability to be great wideout and has a clear path to it right now.
If Pickens can learn this playbook, then it is on for him. He could slip up and win SEC Freshmen of the Year if he explodes like people believe he can.
I don’t think we’ve seen anything yet and that excites me a ton.
Other freshmen making noise are Nolan Smith and Nakobe Dean. Both guys have been getting a ton of love from the media. These two guys are incredibly intelligent, and I think they’re progressing quicker than expected.
Then there are guys like Jordan Davis, Justin Young and other guys who have been here that the media has buzz about and it’s exciting to read.
Davis appears to be in amazing shape from last year, and that’s going to be a major factor in my opinion. He will be able to bust through offensive lines and allow Georgia to get more pressure on quarterbacks.
As for the offensive side of things, Zamir White keeps getting love from the media, which will likely continue to happen. It’s almost scary to think what he will be able to do this season.
Georgia has a ton of talent, we all know that, but with the team being in the middle of fall camp and the media already has this much buzz going, 2019 could be a special year.
It’s been a while since this much hype has surrounded the Dawgs, and unlike the last time this happened, I think Georgia can carry through. The Dawgs have to take it game-by-game and realize the season is a marathon, not a sprint.
Georgia’s finally got these talented guys at every position and a staff that can develop them. It’s year four for Kirby Smart, and the year I think we see what the future holds with the Dawgs.
