The finest band in the land, the Georgia Redcoat marching band, elevated its own to Acting Redcoat Band Director this week. For Georgia football, that’s a “Woof!”

Once a Redcoat, always a Redcoat. For Dr. Brett Bawcum, the new Acting Director of The University of Georgia Redcoat Band, nothing could be truer this Georgia football season.

Himself a big machine that’s red and black, Bawcum has been chugging down the track for 27 years – trying on occasion to leave Athens, but never quite being able to stay away from the Redcoats. Now his dream of all Bulldog dreams has come true. The Redcoat family and all its cousins that dress in Bulldog gear every Saturday are delighted.

Nothing finer

About his Redcoat Band, Bawcum will march 430 proud into Sanford Stadium on September 7. They will carry with them the heart and soul of the Bulldog nation. While the 4:00 PM start against Murray State will make it hard to light up Sanford Stadium before the fourth quarter, the Redcoats and the Georgia faithful will more than make up for it on September 21 when the Bulldog Nation reprises on the big stage the Light Up world premier at South Bend, Indiana in September 2017.
