Lighting up the Redcoat life

Bawcum’s Redcoats are a far cry from the 26 piece band organized in 1905, and there’s a lot to do. No worries Dawg people, the Redcoats will be ready.

Preparations began with spring auditions. They continued through the summer with marching and musical chart composition, leadership training, horn repair, uniform cleaning, travel organizing and who knows what all during the summer.

In season, game day is a six-hour commitment often beginning before 6:00 AM, that after a ten-hour practice week. For away game weekends, Redcoats give 20 of their 48 hours – all this while managing Organic Chemistry, Risk Management, Keats Seminar, Renaissance Art, and that pesky Calculus.

And third year French.

Did I mention Post-Romantic Analysis?

It’s a life’s dream for many Redcoats, but auditions are brutal, spots limited, and competition is tough. Those chosen are the elite, the best of the best, the elect of the elect.
