The Smart band

The Redcoats do their best work in the stands while Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs work between the hedges, providing the game soundtrack, marking the downs and scores, and heightening the game drama with liturgical method while urging the Bulldog Nation to push, pull, and plead its Bulldogs to just one more yard during each and every play.

The heartbeat of the Bulldog spirit, the Redcoats take to their task with unbridled zeal, not leaving their seats – where they stand for four hours – until the teams leave for the showers, serenading fans on their way to post-game tailgates.

Dream season

It will doubtless be a special fall for Dr. Bawcum, who has distinguished himself not just as a damn good Dawg, but as a composer and arranger for collegiate and scholastic groups across America and as a producer and editor for the Mark, Summitt, and Naxos labels.

Bawcum began as a reluctant Redcoat freshman saxophonist in 1992, earned a Redcoat drum major spot, and bounced away from and back to Athens enough times to a find bride, Meghan, who is the “brains, conscience, conductor, and good looks of the operation.” The family enterprise has expanded to four with the additions of Evie, future broadway star, and Nora Kate, a big fan of the 2018 Georgia – Auburn Sanford Stadium Light Up.

Finally realizing the futility of attempted escape from the loving arms of Mother Athens, Bawcum became a key partner in growing the Redcoat traditions, in fact conceiving, composing and implementing the “Larry Munson Battle Hymn” pregame tradition, including the text of Munson’s now legendary celebration of Georgia Football.

So when the silvery voice of Tom Jackson asks you to keep your seat this fall because the Redcoats are coming, you sit tight. For these Redcoats, Sanford Stadium is a place where dreams come true.
