As Georgia football fans, we all think that Uga is the best mascot in the country, well now the entire college football world agrees.

Earlier this month, Sports Illustrated named Georgia football’s mascot “Uga” the No. 1 mascot in the history of the sport.

According to Sports Illustrated’s article, “Uga” beat out Smokey at Tennessee, Bevo at Texas and so many other incredible mascots.

Ranking from ten to six is, No. 10 Smokey from Tennessee, No. 9 Otto the Orange from Syracuse, No. 8 Big Red from Western Kentucky, No. 7 Cocky the Gamecock from South Carolina, and No. 6 Ralphie the Buffalo from Colorado.

The top-five are No. 5 the Tree from Stanford University, No. 4 Bevo from Texas, No.3 Mike the Tiger from LSU, No. 2 the Duck from Oregon, and No. 1 “Uga” from Georgia.

It’s been since 1997 that the English bulldog made this kind of noise.

Uga deemed the cover of the 1997 Sports Illustrated cover, and now 22 years later, he is named the best ever.

While I’m pretty partial to the bulldog, I believe Sports Illustrated finally got one right. We all know that Georgia doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves from the national media, but by George, they got it right this time.

"“Georgia’s line of pure white English bulldogs, now on No. 10, has been a staple of the mascot landscape since 1956,” Sports Illustrated said about Uga. “Though every new dog is added to the “Uga” line– Uga X is the latest– each also has its own unique name, is given a custom-made jersey and a varsity letter, and resides in an air-conditioned on-field doghouse. When his day comes, each Uga is buried in a marble vault alongside his fallen predecessors outside the football stadium.”"

According to Georgiadogs.com, Georgia’s line of bulldogs dates back to 1956 when Frank W. (Sonny) Seiler and his bulldogs started it all.

There have been ten bulldogs with the latest one taking over his duties in 2015. His name is Que. I’ve noticed that while everyone knows him as Uga, I feel like the more Georgia has, the more fans call them by their pet names instead of just Uga.

Que deserves this title, especially after the Sugar Bowl incident with Bevo last year. Thank goodness nothing happened, or that longhorn would have had a ton of Dawg fans coming after it.

Even though Georgia doesn’t get a ton of recognition from the national media about stuff, I’m glad Uga did. He’s the best boy in college football and will hold that spot in college football history forever.
