Georgia football running back D’Andre Swift showed out against Vanderbilt and stamped his name alongside the other great running backs who showed out this week on the Heisman list.

Running backs are a hot commodity in the Heisman race this year and Georgia football has one guy who’s already made a statement on the ground this year.

D’Andre Swift recorded 16 carries for 152 yards averaging 9.3 yards a carry. Despite not getting into the end zone, this performance is pretty spectacular.

Last season, he was hurt on and off and had a nagging injury that never allowed him to fully get going. Fast forward to Saturday, and that injury is no longer something he’s worried about because boy did he look healthy.

Swift ran with a purpose every time he touched the ball and it showed. I mean when someone averages over nine yards a carry, he’s doing something right.

Now some think this performance might not be as impressive as Travis Etienne’s on Thursday night, or Jonathan Taylor’s stats from his first game, but Swift still put up a good fight in week one.

Etienne toted the rock 12 times for 205 yards, three touchdowns and averaged 17.1 yards a carry. Taylor on the other hand had 16 carries, like Swift, and rushed for 135 yards, two touchdowns and averaged 8.4 yards a carry.

Well Swift out-did Taylor in my opinion, easily. The only thing Taylor did over Swift was get in the end zone. While getting Swift a score or two would have helped the Dawgs stomp the Commodore’s even more than the 30-6 score suggests, he helped gain significant yards and make plays when needed.

Now that isn’t what a Heisman usually does because the winner is usually a guy that has to do it all, Swift has help and it only makes him that much better.

I would love to see him make some more stand out plays, he also should just keep doing what he’s doing. Right now he’s in the mix of this early, and I mean early, Heisman race, I believe he’s in a dead heat with the others.

Georgia football has one running back making his stamp on the Heisman race, and Swift just needs to keep plugging and chugging. Who knows, he could be the Dawg’s third Heisman trophy winner.
