Jamil Burroughs has de-committed from the 2020 Georgia football recruiting class. What does this mean, and does it affect Georgia’s 2020 group?

Georgia football got some tough news on Friday as long-time commit Jamil Burroughs chose to de-commit from the 2020 class.

When I did my feature on Burroughs, he was the No. 241st overall, 24th DT, and 26th prospect in Georgia.

Burroughs had a few bad showings in camps since then, and it’s reflected in his current rankings. He has dropped to the No. 326 overall recruit in the nation, No. 32 in the state of Georgia, and the No. 31 defensive tackle according to 247Sports.

There had been many reports that Burroughs had been taking a lot of unofficial visits to Alabama and that he may not finish in the final list for Georgia’s 2020 group.

Those reports became official today as Burroughs announced he de-committed from Georgia this morning on Twitter.

There has been a lot of noise over the last couple of months that Burroughs may be leaning to go to Alabama.

247Sports has his crystal ball at 75% Georgia and 25% Alabama. I just do not see him ending up with Alabama.

Saban expects his players to work and it just does not look like Burroughs has been working as hard as others to improve his craft, again, reflected in his rankings dropping.

Wherever Burroughs ends up I wish him the best, even if it means lining up against the “Great Wall of Georgia” next year in Tuscaloosa.

So how does Burroughs de-commitment affects Georgia? They are losing a lot of defensive linemen after this season.

Seniors David Marshall, Justin Young, Julian Rochester, Tyler Clark, Michail Carter, Antonio Poole, and Michael Barnett are all on their way out. There are also a couple of juniors like Malik Herring, Devonte Wyatt, that could declare after the season.

However, with the emergence of Jordan Davis at nose tackle that position looks to be in better shape than it has in a few years.

Georgia also has freshman Tymon Mitchell who can rotate at the nose tackle position. So the Dawgs may not sign a nose tackle this recruiting cycle.

The Dawgs still have commitments from Jalen Carter, a four-star defensive tackle from Apopka, Florida, Warren Brinson, a four-star defensive tackle from Bradenton, Florida, and Nazir Stackhouse, a four-star defensive tackle from Decatur, Georgia.

Even though Georgia has three defensive tackles in their 2020 recruiting class, they will probably add another defensive lineman before December.

The big names buzzing around Georgia are five-star strongside defensive end Jordan Burch and four-star strongside defensive end Zykeivous Walker. Walker has a 100% crystal ball to Georgia on 247.

While losing a long-time commit like Burroughs stings a tad bit, there is a reason for it. Dawg nation should trust Kirby Smart and know that they’ll replace him with a better guy who is willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field.

Georgia will be fine without Burroughs and vice versa. Good luck, young man.
