Georgia football handled its business against Vanderbilt. Now the Dawgs faceoff with Murray State in their first home game of the season.

For the first home game of the season, Georgia football takes on the Murray State Racers.

The Dawgs shouldn’t have too hard of a time against the Racers, but they cannot overlook them either.

Murray State has an air-raid offense that can test the Dawgs secondary.  While Georgia shouldn’t lose to this team, the Dawgs need to come out like it’s a massive game.

If the team acts like its a game they can overlook, then the Racers could make something happen.

These two teams kick off on ESPN at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Dawgs also have a pre-game ceremony to unveil the new name of the field to Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

It’s going to be a jam-packed game where a lot of young players should get time on the field. Here is Dawn of the Dawg’s staff predictions for Game 2 of the year.

Alistair Penny

It sounds crazy to think that the Racers will score more points than Vandy did last week, but I just think that Georgia pulls their starters a lot earlier and a big play comes from somewhere.

I fully expect Georgia to have benched most of their guys by early in the third quarter and let the backups close things.

That won’t be bad to watch, though. Six touchdowns this week should calm those fans who didn’t feel great this past week and look out for some young guns to make an impact.

Expected awesome moment: Zeus gets his first touchdown as a Dawg, and the whole place goes bananas.

Score prediction: Georgia 45 – 10 Murray State

Jonathan Williams

Georgia’s ability to run the ball at an elite level will allow for the Dawgs to jump out quick on Murray State.

The ability to run the ball with ease will allow for guys like James Cook and Zamir White to get more touches and get a lot of younger guys some touches including the wide receiver core.

After putting in some defensive reserves, I think that Murray State could get a few late scores, but the Dawgs will remain in control for the entirety of the game.

Score prediction: Dawgs win by a score of 48-17.

Richard Gnann

Coach Mitch Stewart is in his fifth year as head coach at Murray State, and with a 15 – 29 record, he is rebuilding after losing his top two defenders, his top two quarterbacks and top running back.

The Dawgs will lead by 31 at the half.

Unlike Murray State’s amazing 31 point 2018 comeback against Southeast Missouri State, this one will only get worse for the Racers.

Stetson Bennett will get 20 minutes of game time, and 50,000 or less will see his first Bulldog touchdown in person as the Dawg people head for home early to put the pups to bed.

The last two Bulldog scores will be defensive, and the only reason Georgia scores less than 70 is Kirby Smart mercifully agrees to a fourth-quarter running clock.

The world will have to wait until next week to see the first touchdown scored on the Georgia defense.

Murray State plays at home in a 17,000 seat stadium and ranks by College Sports Journal as the 66th best FCS team in the country. This will be 62  – 3 culture shock shellacking. Hopefully, they take home a check big enough to have steak on the way back to Murray. They’ll deserve it.

Score prediction: Georgia 62-3

Davis Kimball

It won’t take long for the Dawgs to take full control of this game.

Georgia will score a lot of points and hold Murray State’s offense in check while keeping the game plan very simple.

There’s no reason for the Dawgs to get creative on offense or defense in this game and risk giving away any secrets or wrinkles to upcoming big-time opponents like Notre Dame.

The starters will probably play a half at the most which will allow for the reserves and young players to get lots of meaningful experience that will hopefully pay dividends later.

If the Dawgs can make quick work of Murray State in the first half and avoid any severe injuries, it will be a good day for the program.

Score prediction: Dawgs 52, Murray State 10

Eric Taylor

Georgia will lean on their offensive line and running game to grind the Racers into the ground.

The Bulldogs should have a few big plays from the passing game as well, helping to build more chemistry between Fromm and his receivers.

I predict that Demetris Robertson could have over 100 all-purpose yards in this game. The game will be over by half time. I expect a heavy dose of Stetson Bennett in the second half, along with a lot of freshmen.

Score prediction: Georgia 50 Murray State 7

Savannah Leigh

Georgia should have no problem defeating the Racers on Saturday. I expect the Dawgs to have a simple game plan is what we will likely see, but I think a ton of points will be scored.

This game is the one we see Zamir White score his first colligate touchdown if not more than one. I’m predicting at least two running backs go for over 100 yards on the ground.

Jake Fromm does his thing, and we see a ton of rotation at the wideout position. Georgia’s defense wreaks havoc on Murray State’s offense, and we see guys like Nakobe Dean and other youngsters get some significant time on the field.

For the second week in a row, the Dawgs don’t allow a touchdown and improve to 2-0.

Score Prediction: Georgia 52-6

Next. Georgia football should ease past Murray State in home opener. dark

Georgia football has its first ‘cupcake’ game of the season with Murray State, and it should not have any problems defeating this opposing team. Win with dominance, do your job and move onto the final cupcake game of the year against Arkansas State.

This game will be the first warmup for Notre Dame, and next will be the final warmup before we all see history happen in Sanford Stadium on Sept. 21.
