Georgia football unveiled Dooley field at Sanford Stadium on Saturday against Murray State. Here are five players outside Herschel Walker coached by Vince Dooley that are incredible.

Vince Dooley had the opportunity to coach a lot of great athletes while he was the Georgia football head coach.

By far the best one was Herschel Walker, but there were some other outstanding players. Here are my top five players, not named Herschel Walker, that was coached by Vince Dooley.

Georgia has always had great players on their football team. At least as far back as I can remember. Of course, I came up with Eric Zeier, Garrison, Hearst, Andre Hastings, and head coach Ray Goff.

Well, Goff’s predecessor, Vince Dooley, had quite a few elite athletes as well. There was one that was so good even those that aren’t into football know his name.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

I’m talking, of course, about one Herschel Walker.

However, I’m going to talk about some of the other elite athletes that Dooley had at his disposal.

Tim Worley:

Worley sits 14th on Georgia’s career rushing yards list with 2,038 from 1985-86, and ’88.

He is tied with Todd Gurley for third on the most touchdowns in a season list with 17, which he got in 1988, Dooley’s last season as the Bulldogs’ head coach.

Worley is also tied for tenth with Robert Edwards in career touchdowns with 27. He is also eight in career average per carry with 5.8.

After leaving Georgia, Worley was drafted in the first round, seventh pick overall of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rodney Hampton:

Hampton carried the ball 472 times over his time at Georgia, good enough for the tenth most in Georgia history.

His best game was against Ole Miss in 1987 where he ran for 227 yards, good enough for the seventh-best rushing yards in a game in Georgia’s history. Hampton currently sits eighth on Georgia’s career rushing yards list with 2,668 yards from 1987-89.

He is also fourth in yards per rush for a season with an average of 7.06 from the 1987 season. He is ninth in yards per rush for his career with an average of 5.7.

After leaving Georgia, Hampton was drafted in the first round, 24th pick overall of the 1990 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

Lindsay Scott:

Scott is eighth on Georgia’s career receiving yards with 2,098 which he totaled from 1978-81. He led the Bulldogs in receiving in 1978, 79, and 81.

Lindsay Scott will always be most well known for Larry Munson’s call of “Run Lindsay run” against Florida in 1980

After leaving Georgia, Scott was drafted in the first round, 13th overall of the 1982 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints

Freddie Gilbert:

Gilbert is sixth on Georgia’s sacks for a career list with 26. He is ninth in most sacks for a season with 11, which he got in 1983.

He also holds first and second on the most sacks in a single game list with five against Temple in 1983 and four against Florida in 1981.

After leaving Georgia, Gilbert was drafted in the 1st round, 19th overall of the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft by the Denver Broncos.

Terry Hoage:

Hoage owns the SEC record for most interceptions in a season with 12 from 1982. He is also tied with Jeff Hipp for second in most career interceptions with 14 from 1981-83. He is also tied with Joe Jacukra, Jeff Hipp, and Tra Battle for the most interceptions in a single game with three which he got against Vanderbilt in 1982.

After leaving Georgia, Hoage was drafted in the 3rd round, 68th overall of the 1984 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

As you can see, these guys not only wrote the record books at Georgia but GMs highly coveted them at the next level.
