Georgia football’s week three opponent is the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Here is the Dawn of the Dawg staff predictions for Saturday’s game.

Georgia’s currently 2-0 on the season, and it has dominated both teams its faced. The Dawgs have its last cupcake game of the year against Arkansas State with a noon kickoff.

Despite the early kickoff, the Dawgs have to make sure they come in focus and ready to play.

Georgia cannot sleep through the first quarter against Arkansas State because the Red Wolves are more talented than Murray State.

So the Dawgs might have a slightly bigger challenge this week. However, the staff here at Dawn of the Dawg feel like it’s going to be another easy one for Georgia.

Here is what all the contributors and expert think will happen on Saturday.

Last week was closer than I expected it to be, especially for the first quarter.

However, the Dawgs finally got into a rhythm and were able to put the game out of reach before half time was started. Something I would like to see this week is a faster start from the Georgia offense and a better start from the Georgia defense (no big plays allowed!).

Georgia’s offense showed just how quick it could put up points on the board, as the score went from 7-7 to 42-7 in seemingly the blink of an eye last week against Murray State.

This week, I’d like for the starting Georgia offense not to have to punt the entire time it’s on the field against a defense that will be very much inferior to the Dawgs’ offense.

Also offensively, look for George Pickens to cement himself as the number two receiver in the offense, with the possibility to overtake Demetrious Robertson sooner rather than later if he keeps getting so wide open all over the field.

Keeping with the first-team offense, Swift will be looking to continue his dominance on the ground as the unquestioned lead back for the Dawgs and keep an eye on whether or not Jamaree Salyer gets a second consecutive start at right tackle, which I think he will.

Later in the game, we should get to see Zamir ‘Zeus’ White continue to bowl over defenses in the second half. I will also be interested to see if transfer tight end Eli Wolf continues to be a favorite target for quarterback Jake Fromm like he was last week, which surprised me some.

On the defensive side of the ball we should see a much better and more disciplined group of guys, because I’d be willing to bet all the money I currently have that coach Kirby Smart was livid with how the defense started off the game.

Giving up 17 points to an FCS opponent will not go over well with Smart and the defensive staff. Expect to see the first-team defense create havoc the entire first half ceding exactly zero points until the third quarter when the reserves start to trickle into the game.

At the end of the day, the defense will rebound in a good way, and the offense will continue rolling while both units continue to show only vanilla play-calling for Notre Dame to prepare for next week.

Arkansas State comes to Sanford Stadium with much more than football on its mind Saturday.

Red Wolves head coach Blake Anderson lost his wife of 27 years, Wendy, after her two year battle with cancer just days before the Arkansas State opener.  Blake returned to the sidelines last week after a brief leave of absence, and his Red Wolves played with a special purpose, trouncing UNLV.

Chief among Anderson’s much lesser worries is replacing two-time Sunbelt Player of the Year quarterback Justice Hansen.

The defense will have a big day, but the Red Wolves will keep the fans that can stand the heat in their seats until the middle of the third quarter. The Dawgs will then begin turning their attention fully to Notre Dame’s historic visit on September 21.

Georgia has its final cupcake game of the year, but instead of the Dawgs treating it like one, we see this group come out with fire in their eyes.

Look for the ground game to put on a show for another week, and for Stetson Bennett to get some time on the field again. Jake Fromm and D’Andre Swift didn’t have to do much last week, and I expect the same against the Red Wolves.

If anyone breaks out this game, it could be Zamir White. I see his first 100-yard game as a Dawg with a couple of scores to add to it.

However, I will say, we don’t need to see this defense let up any. Georgia’s defense needs to come out mad and keep doing what they’ve been doing the last two weeks.

While the Red Wolves may be tougher than Murray State, I believe the Dawgs put this one away early, and produce another dominating win on Saturday.

Georgia had an insane pass rush last week pressuring the quarterback a total of 25 times.

On the flip side of that, the offensive line has allowed just one sack and one quarterback hurry this season so far.

Georgia’s offense has too many weapons for the Red Wolves to contain and the pressure for Georgia’s defense will be too much for them to handle.

Georgia has a bigger challenge on their plate this weekend than they did with Murray State.

The Red Wolves have some talented wild receivers and a group of playmakers on offense. This Arkansas State team will be a good challenge for our defense to have to tighten things up before we face off against Notre Dame.

Georgia will still win convincingly this week thanks to another solid day from our running backs allowing us to play some more guys and get a lot of people some reps and touches with the ball.

The Dawgs will head into one of the biggest games of the year undefeated continuing to prove the nation that they are indeed a top 3 team.
