Georgia football already has defensive back Bralyn Oliver committed for the 2021 class. The Bulldogs have now added another defensive back with David Daniel.

David Daniel is a tall safety, standing 6-2, and 185 pounds, and he is the latest to commit in Georgia football’s 2021 recruiting class.

He is a four-star recruit and ranks as the No. 41 overall prospect in the nation, No. 2 athlete and No. 5 prospect from Georgia in the 2021 class according to 247Sports.

He is another homegrown talent, from Woodstock, that Kirby Smart and company have been able to lock up.

Daniel has excellent read and react instincts. He goes to the ball like a heat-seeking missile.

He is the kind of safety that gets to the ball carrier with bad intentions. You can almost guarantee that if Daniel gets there, the guy is going to the ground, he had 66 tackles last year, 52 which were solo.

He also added a sack, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and forced a fumble.

He is also an excellent special teams player. He was able to block a punt and a field goal last year, as well as play gunner on punt coverage.

Daniel did play a little on offense also. He caught three passes for 13 yards.

Watching his tape, he looks a lot like JR Reed to me. They have a similar build. Reed stands 6-1 and 194 pounds and is also a hard-nosed safety that has a knack for getting turnovers.

From what I’ve seen, Daniel looks like an in-the-box safety, much like Reed. He seems to be a good matchup on tight ends which is good since the SEC always appears to be loaded with them.

My overall view is that Daniel will be a fine addition to this Georgia team.

With J.R. Reed and Richard LeCounte both possibly leaving this year, as well as Chris Smith, Otis Reese and Latavious Brini potentially leaving in 2020 it is time for Georgia to reload the backend of their defense.

As I said in an earlier article, Georgia is making some headway in the fight for DBU.

It seems like every cycle Smart is adding another dynamic piece to the secondary.

Shouldn’t be a surprise as Smart was a safety himself for the Bulldogs. Georgia may never overtake the DBU throne, but it is nice to see the secondary getting a lot of attention for a change.

Next. Is this the best running back core in Georgia football history?. dark

There were many years where it seemed that the Dawgs secondary was going completely ignored.

That is no longer the case as Smart, and his staff has been doing a lot of work to upgrade those positions and keep quality talent coming in to compete.
