Georgia Football: D’Andre Swift among top SEC backs through Week 3
#5: Larry Rountree III, Missouri-
Larry Rountree had a nice year last year as the unquestioned lead back for the Missouri offense and he is following it up so far with another nice season in 2019.
Rountree, while splitting duties with Tyler Badie has still managed to rush for the sixth most yards in the SEC with 287 and is averaging almost six yards per carry, which puts him in the top 10 in that category as well.
To go with those top 10 numbers in two very important categories, Rountree III is also tied for first in rushing touchdowns with four.
Overall, the junior running back has had a very nice year on the ground so far.
And despite seeing fellow back Tyler Badie get the most receiving opportunities, Rountree himself has also still managed to put himself just outside the top 15 running backs for receiving yards on the season.
Rountree III can cement himself as a top five running back in the SEC for the rest of the season as long as he keeps up his rushing dominance and starts contributing a little more in the pass game.
Otherwise, he could see Alabama’s Najee Harris leap him and possibly even his own teammate in Tyler Badie.
#4: Isaiah Spiller, Texas A&M-
Isaiah Spiller has come on his season and really shown how much of a weapon he can be for the Texas A&M offense.
He factors into both the rushing and receiving aspects of the game and sits at 10th in rushing yards with 246 on the year, but also comes in at 15 in receiving yards with 43.
Spiller is also in the top 10 in both receiving and rushing yards per catch/carry with an impressive 8.79 yards per carry and 10.75 yards per catch.
He also has two rushing touchdowns on the year. Spiller is actually second in rushing yards per carry with only Georgia’s D’Andre Swift ahead of him in that count, and even Swift is only averaging just over .5 yard per carry more.
That should tell you how effective Spiller has been with the ball in his hand why he is deserving of the number four spot in the SEC through three weeks.
