Georgia Football: D’Andre Swift among top SEC backs through Week 3
#1: D’Andre Swift, Georgia-
I know all of you are reading this have really just been waiting to see where D’Andre Swift would find himself amongst the rest of his SEC peers, and now you know.
Swift has been, without a doubt, the top running back in the SEC through three weeks.
I will get into specifics in just a minute, but to give all of you an idea of just how dominant Swift has been; not only was Swift the only running back to finish inside the top five in all of the rushing/receiving yards, rushing/receiving touchdowns, and rushing/receiving yards per carry/catch categories, but he has also been the only back to finish inside even the top 10 in every one of these statistics.
That’s what is known as pure and utter dominance.
Swift placed fifth in rushing yards in the SEC with 290, third in receiving yards among running backs with 73, tied for third in rushing touchdowns with two, and tied for second in receiving touchdowns with one.
Where it gets even more impressive though is when you consider Swift has done all of this while splitting numerous carries with running mates Brian Herrien, Zamir White, James Cook, and Kenny McIntosh and even more than a few to wide receivers on jet sweeps.
So despite having to concede touches to more than three other running backs, Swift has still been dominant and finished in the top five in every major offensive category for running backs.
As if all those numbers weren’t enough, I’ve left out the best part. Swift is averaging 9.36 yards per carry this year; 9.36! Swift is almost gaining a first down every time he gets the ball.
Swift, who we all know is very good at catching passes out of the backfield is also averaging 23.33 yards per catch this year.
That includes this very nice catch and run for a touchdown against Arkansas State where he showed everything that makes him the best running back in the SEC and very possibly the best running back in the entire nation:
On the catch and run, he displays speed (to the edge and straight-line), power (runs through arm tackles), and his agility to take it to the house from more than 45 yards out.
Swift is going to be a problem for any team that has to stop him and my guess is that he won’t be slowing down in the least bit for the rest of the year.
Just three weeks into the 2019 season Swift sits at number one on my ranking of the SEC running backs and my guess is he won’t be budged or threatened from his throne for the rest of the year.
