Some don’t think that Georgia football starting running back D’Andre Swift deserves Heisman consideration. Yet, he’s doing what other backs in the SEC are doing with half the carries.

Georgia football has some of the best running backs in the country, yet none of them get Heisman consideration. Why?

We all know why because well, they don’t get 25-plus carries a game or always have the most explosive plays. However, the plays they make are crucial to some of the outcomes of the games.

Now I understand why Swift won’t get the Heisman this year, and respect that. However, he is doing what the other top SEC backs are doing in half the effort.

When I say this, I mean that even though Swift is the No. 4 running back in the SEC in rushing yards after five games, he is still better than the three in front of him.

Right now, Swift averages 13.2 carries a game. He averages 92 yards and 6.97 each time he totes the rock. Swift also has four rushing touchdowns on the year, as well.

Now let’s look at the top three rushers in the SEC.

The top rusher is Kylin Hill from Mississippi State. He averages 21.6 carries, 119.20 yards a game and  5.52 a carry, and has five touchdowns.

Next up is No. 2 on the list Rakeem Boyd from Arkansas. He averages 18.2 carries, 96.60 yards a game, 5.31 each carry and has three scores.

The third back is Ke’Shawn Vaughn from Vanderbilt, yeah, the same guy Swift outrushed in Week 1 by a landslide. Vaughn averages 17.4 carries a game. He averages 93.40 yards a game and 5.37 per carry.

Swift averages six fewer carries than the three guys above him and still has better yards per carry stat.

So imagine if he averaged the same amount of carries as Hill, then he would have 752.76 yards give or take.

My point is that Swift is playing for his team, making plays in crucial situations for his team, and yet he gets no love. Now, if he got 21.6 carries a game like Hill, then he would get the acknowledgment because he would almost be at 1,000 yards five games into the year.

I know that is all hypothetical, but it’s something to think about. Why do players who help lead their team to an SEC Championship, Rose Bowl, or even National Championship not get considered?

Sometimes the best plays come in the postseason for these players, and it should be considered. Swift is one impressive running back, and yet because he shares the load, he gets no love.

In my opinion, sharing the load and still being one of the top backs in the SEC and the top-50 in the country says something.

Georgia football is RBU, yet it’s been since 1980 that one of the backs took home the Heisman trophy. There have been successful running backs who get awards at Georgia, but the hallowed one, you know the one everyone loves, it needs to come back to Athens.

I’m not saying Swift should win because well there are better backs, I’m just saying he should be a consideration. He’s already the best back in the SEC doing half the load, and yet no one sees it but Georgia fans. What will it take?
