2017 – Davin Bellamy versus Notre Dame

This play is from more recent memory and is one of many unforgettable plays from the 2017 run to the National Championship game. This one came in a clutch moment in South Bend against No. 24 Notre Dame.

After losing starting quarterback Jacob Eason in the season opener, the Dawgs had to turn to freshman Jake Fromm.

One of his first major tests was to lead the Bulldogs into South Bend for the first time in program history.

Bulldawg Nation took over Notre Dame’s home field in this top 25 showdown and was treated to one of a few memorable games from 2017.

Sony Michel and Nick Chubb would combine for 136 yards, and Terry Godwin would make the catch of the year in the effort.

Even with those offensive efforts from Michel, Chubb, and Godwin, Georgia would find itself in a defensive battle late in the game.

Rodrigo Blankenship kicked a 30-yard field goal with 3:34 remaining to give the Dawgs a 20-19 lead.

The game would rest on the shoulders of the defense. Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush would try to lead the Irish on a game-winning drive with less than two minutes remaining. The Dawgs would be up to the task.

On 1st and 10 from the Georgia 36 yard line, Wimbush took a shotgun snap and scanned the field for an open man. Both outside linebackers, Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter, would create outside pressure on the tackles.

It was Bellamy who would get to Wimbush first and sack him, creating a fumble. Carter pounced on the loose ball to seal the victory for Georgia. No one knew how big that sack and win would be for Georgia until much later in the season.
