Georgia football has a ton of teams that consider the Dawgs as rivals. Should the Dawgs consider South Carolina as one?
South Carolina travels to play Georgia football today, and it seems like when these two faceoff, its always a highly anticipated matchup by not only the fans but the players as well.
Can the game really even be considered a rivalry though?
Since Kirby Smart’s gotten to Georgia as the head coach, he has never lost to the Gamecocks with his current record being 3-0.
The first game dates back to 1894 when the Dawgs put the Gamecocks in the slaughterhouse and beat them 40-0. That game is also the largest margin of victory of the entire series.

From that point on, it has been all Georgia for the entire series.
The current record between the two teams is 51-18 in favor of the Dawgs. That is a 32 game difference in the win column between the two teams.
Georgia also holds the record in for the series for the longest win streak at 10 while South Carolina’s best streak was for three games.
I am no expert by any means on what the essentials are to make a matchup a rivalry, but I know that one of them is the same team not winning every single year.
It may get to the point where the Gamecocks make a trophy for when they beat Georgia so they can finally put something in their trophy case aside from an ACC Championship from 1969.
Which by the way, the Dawgs beat South Carolina that year too by a score of 41-16.
Georgia currently holds a four-game win streak against South Carolina, and in those four games has outscored them 145-61. The closest of the games being in 2016 when Georgia held on for victory with the final score being 28-14.
One player that had a major hand in handing out L’s to South Carolina is Jake Fromm.
Fromm’s career stats against Carolina is 390 passing yards, averaging a 78 completion percentage, thrown for three touchdowns, and only one interception.
With the weapons Fromm has this season, I see no signs of this lackluster series performance by Carolina stopping anytime soon.
South Carolina could very well become a dangerous team in the East here shortly, but if they want Georgia to consider this game a rivalry, they better start putting numbers up in the win column ASAP.
They are known as a little brother for a reason, and they are for sure seen like that in the eyes of Bulldog Nation.
