Georgia Football: Odds and betting lines vs Kentucky

Georgia’s down week against the Gamecocks hasn’t dampened the Las Vegas view of the Dawgs. UGA is sitting as a 25.5-point favorite against Kentucky, who comes into Athens with a 3-3 overall record. However, the combination of Georgia’s poor offensive showing last week, and a defense that ranks among the nation’s best has the over/under sitting at a mere 45.5 points, courtesy of The Action Network.

The Bulldogs have been solid on defense all season, ranking 6th nationally in scoring defense, giving up only 12.3 points per game. The running defense also ranks 6th, and Georgia is the only FBS team in the nation who has yet to give up a rushing touchdown. Kentucky’s 99th ranked offense, only scoring 23.5 points per game, should have a tough time moving the ball with their struggling pass offense.

Georgia Football: Gameday weather forecast vs Kentucky

With this week being homecoming there will be many activities planned around the game, but unfortunately, right now the weather doesn’t look to cooperate, with a 90-100 percent chance of showers throughout the day and evening in Athens. If you’re planning on tailgating or attending outdoor events (including the game), bring some foul weather gear and warm clothes, as the temperature looks to dip into the 50s on Saturday night.

Georgia Football: Injury report vs Kentucky

The injury report for Georgia is not the most comforting thing. Per DawgNation.com, OL Justin Shaffer is out, along with DL Travon Walker, who has a broken wrist. Wideout Lawrence Cager has been downgraded to doubtful with rib and shoulder injuries that sidelined him in the second half against South Carolina. The loss of Cager is a big blow for the Bulldogs, as he’s been the one consistent threat downfield for Jake Fromm to hit.

Running back Brian Herrien, DL Jordan Davis, DB Mark Webb, and DB Tyson Campbell are all listed as questionable. Of course, these projections can change at any time.

On the other side of the stadium, the Wildcats have upgraded the status of quarterback Sawyer Smith to be available if needed on Saturday.

Georgia football: Line play a key against Kentucky

Jake Fromm throwing three interceptions and Rodrigo Blankenship missing a very makeable field goal in overtime are anomalies. Unfortunately for Georgia, they happened in the same game and added to the nasty mix that led to a loss against a supposedly inferior team.

One thing that has wasn’t an aberration was Georgia’s play at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The offensive line struggled to keep Fromm out of trouble and couldn’t keep the South Carolina defense on their heels in the run game. The “Great Wall” of Georgia needs to show up and live up to the reputation they had been given prior to the disaster against the Gamecocks.

Defensively, the line has done a masterful job at stopping opponents from running the ball. However, applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks hasn’t been as successful. The Bulldogs have only tallied 15 sacks this season, ranking them 43rd in the nation. For a defense as good as this one, that number needs to be increased.

Win the game in the trenches is the order of business against Kentucky. Do that, and the Dawgs should easily cover the 25-point spread.
