One of the biggest 2020 prospects for Georgia football makes his decision today. Where will Arik Gilbert choose to spend the next three to four years?

Georgia football has been after 5-star tight end Arik Gilbert for multiple years, and today’s the day he makes his college decision.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Gilbert ranks as the No. 10 overall, No. 1 tight end, No. 2 Georgia prospect, and the No. 124 all-time recruit.

He is 6-5 and 253 pounds, and according to his 247 profile, he runs a 4.73 40-yard dash and has a 34.60 vertical.

Early Tuesday morning, Gilbert released a graphic with his top five schools on it and announced he would commit on Oct. 23 during his All-American jersey presentation. His top five schools are Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Clemson, and Texas A&M.

While he may have released a top-5, it’s more like a top-2 as Georgia and Alabama are once again battling it out for a 5-star.

Gilbert took an official visit to Georgia this past weekend for the Kentucky game with his mother, and it seemed to go well. His mother loves Georgia and is high on the Dawgs. However, Gilbert doesn’t seem as interested in them.

Since this spring, the heat between him and the Dawgs has seemed to slowly go out as he visited other places more and more. For a while, a lot of folks thought Clemson would get him, but now it seems like he will choose Alabama today.

Now, it could be a good sign that after the visit to Athens, he decided to commit, and it could mean good news for Georgia. At the same time, Alabama has been a heavy lean most recently, and Gilbert could have decided after this weekend, that is where he’s supposed to go.

I would never count out the Dawgs for an in-state kid, especially one of Gilbert’s magnitude and talent. However, it’s pretty evident that Georgia doesn’t throw to the tight ends as often, and well, I don’t blame Gilbert for wanting to go to a place he will get a lot of action.

Alabama doesn’t always throw to its tight ends either but has had tight ends drafted in the early rounds more recently than the Dawgs.

For almost two years now, I thought Gilbert would be a part of this class, but right now, I have to change my mind. I believe he will pick Alabama today.

Now it does hurt to lose a 5-star out of your state, but at the same time, I feel like another 5-star Darnell Washington fits Georgia’s offense a tad better than Gilbert. The two put on social media yesterday that they want to play with each other, but I believe that was a troll job to trick fans.

Gilbert is one of the most talented players in the entire country, and while Georgia should get him because he’s from the Peach State, Alabama plucks another one out from under the Dawgs.

Georgia’s going to take two tight ends in this class, and if Gilbert chooses the Tide, then the Dawgs will turn their focus on landing Theo Johnson and Washington.

Gilbert could surprise some folks today, but he likely won’t. If he does pick Alabama, I believe that the staff at Georgia will still stay in his ear and attempt to flip him. We still have a little over two months till early signing day and anything could happen.

Georgia’s currently the No. 6 overall and the No. 3 SEC class with 16 members. The Dawgs have an average rating of 93.72 per commit. There are about 7-9 spots left in this class, and losing out on Gilbert won’t be the end of the world.

Now, if he comes, it would be a massive grab and a huge win for tight end coach Todd Hartley, but I believe the Dawgs will have to wait for a 5-star tight end to commit to them.
