Georgia football: 2019 Early Signing Period, everything you need to know
By Eric Taylor
The 2019 Early Signing Period has come and gone for the Georgia football program and here’s how the Bulldogs fared.
Georgia football has room to restock quite a few offensive positions as well as a secondary that could have a few holes in it in 2020. The Early Signing Period (which has now all but replaced February’s National Signing Day) saw some good and bad for the Bulldogs.
It was a shame Georgia missed out on quarterback CJ Stroud, who opted to sign with Ohio State. Kirby Smart and his team will have some decisions to make at the quarterback position in the coming weeks.
Georgia was able to sign 17 of their 19 commits in the Early Signing Period, and here is how 247Sports ranked them:
- Mekhail Sherman is a five-star (0.9921) recruit who is the No. 2 linebacker in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’3, 234 pounds, and comes from Washington, DC.
- Tate Ratledge is a four-star recruit (0.9815) who is the No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’6, 322 pounds, and comes from Rome, GA.
- Kendall Milton is a four-star recruit (0.9809) who is the No. 6 running back in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’1, 215 pounds, and comes from Clovis, CA.
- Marcus Rosemy is a four-star recruit (0.9795) who is the No. 7 wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’2, 195 pounds, and comes from Fort Lauderdale, FL.
- Jermaine Burton is a four-star recruit (0.9748) who is the No. 8 wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’0, 190 pounds, and comes from Calabasas, CA.
- Jalen Carter is a four-star recruit (0.9746) who is the No. 6 defensive lineman in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’4, 301 pounds, and comes from Apopka, FL.
- Arian Smith is a four-star recruit (0.9661) who is the No. 14 wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’1, 170 pounds, and comes from Lakeland, FL.
- Jalen Kimber is a four-star recruit (0.9430) who is the No. 8 defensive back in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’0, 170 pounds, and comes from Arlington, TX.
- Major Burns is a four-star recruit (0.9325) who is the No. 11 safety in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’2, 176 pounds, and comes from Baton Rouge, LA.
- Chad Lindberg is a four-star recruit (0.9292) who is the No. 17 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’6, 327 pounds, and comes from League City, TX.
- Carson Beck is a four-star recruit (0.9191) who is the No. 8 quarterback in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’5, 226 pounds, and comes from Jacksonville, FL.
- Warren Brinson is a four-star recruit (0.9094) who is the No. 26 defensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’5, 290 pounds, and comes from Bradenton, FL.
- Nazir Stackhouse is a four-star recruit (0.9293) who is the No. 27 defensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’3, 306 pounds, and comes from Decatur, GA.
- Justin Robinson is a four-star recruit (0.9020) who is the No. 48 wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’4, 200 pounds and comes from Mcdonough, GA.
- Austin Blaske is a three-star recruit (0.8759) who is the No. 42 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’5, 278 pounds and comes from Guyton, Ga.
- Devin Willock is a three-star recruit (0.8573) who is the No. 67 offensive tackle in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is a mammoth 6’6, 345 pounds, and is from Paramus, NJ.
- Jared Zirkel is a three-star recruit (0.8263) who is the No. 5 kicker in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He is 6’3, 185 pounds, and comes from Kerrville, TX.
It’s noticeable that the offensive line was a highly targeted group, bringing four in during this cycle with two others, Broderick Jones and Sedrick Van Pran, possibly being added later. Of those signed Tate Ratlidge the highest-rated and one of the most talented tackles Georgia has ever pulled out of the state of Georgia.

Don’t sleep on three-star Devin Willock though, ratings are oftentimes just numbers on paper, Solomon Kindley was also a three-star. Willock is a beast of a man and will most likely play guard at Georgia. He has the perfect frame for it.
Receivers were another group that Kirby Smart and his staff sought after highly, bringing in four with the 2020 class thus far. This class looks very similar to the one Alabama brought in back in 2017. That cycle, Alabama brought in Jerry Jeudy, DeVonte Smith, and Henry Ruggs III. Will Marcus Rosemy, Jermaine Burton, and Arian Smith match what those three have done, only time will tell.
Georgia brought in three defensive linemen, most notably Jalen Carter. It’s great to see Georgia finally start investing in their defensive line. The results were seen this past season of what can happen when you focus on the defensive line of scrimmage. Carter, Travon Walker, and Jordan Davis are going to make for a very talented front line of defense.
The Bulldogs brought in two guys in the secondary, but more than likely have also added Kelee Ringo, but he won’t make it official until the Under Armor All-American Game. Ringo is the No. 1 cornerback in the nation according to 247Sports. Add that to Eric Stokes, DJ Daniel, and Tyrique Stevenson and Georgia’s secondary is going to be loaded.
That is not even mentioning Jalen Kimber, another kid who fans should really like. Another top ten corner in this class. It’s feasible to see him playing inside with Stevenson giving slot receivers fits.
Altogether this is another elite class for Georgia, coming in at No. 4 in the nation, as of now. There are also rumors of a few signings with Georgia that will be officially announced next month. Georgia will be looking to add even more talent to this class on February 2nd, the official National Signing Day. Now that’s scary.
