Georgia football entered National Signing Day ranked No. 1 in the recruiting rankings, and it’s poised to exit the day at the same spot.

The early signing period has really killed the buzz for National Signing Day, especially for Georgia football fans.

The Bulldogs entered the day with only four unsigned commits, only three of which were highly sought-after guys. Each of them signed letters of intent with no drama. The rest of Georgia’s commitment list signed back in December.

That’s not to say Georgia’s signing day didn’t have any headlines. Broderick Jones’s quiet recruitment, long commitment to Georgia and lack of signature in December prompted fans to worry about him flipping to a different school. The suspense ended quickly when the No. 2 ranked offensive tackle signed his LOI around 10:30 a.m. Jones originally committed to Georgia in April 2018.

The next announcement fans were waiting on came around an hour later when Sedrick Van Pran signed. The No. 1 ranked center recently jumped from No. 111 in the 247Sports Composite rankings to No. 59, adding even more hype to his decision. Ultimately, he stayed true to the commitment he made in August.

The other two players were recent commits, so there was no reason to expect they would sign elsewhere. Daijun Edwards adds a second running to Georgia’s 2020 class. The Bulldogs have now signed two running backs in every even-number year since 2012.

On the opposite end of the state (Moultrie-to-Chatsworth), Ladd McConkey became the fifth wide receiver to join the class. McConkey is just a three-star and isn’t even ranked in the top-1000, but he’s an amazing athlete and someone the coaches will look to mold into a star player.

Georgia did get some surprises on Wednesday. Cameron Kinnie, a massive defensive tackle signed. The three-star isn’t one of the top prospects in the nation, but with his size, it’s easy to see why Georgia’s defensive coaching staff wanted him.

Three-star cornerback Daran Branch flipped from Ole Miss to Georgia. A three-star cornerback signing at this point may seem negligible, but Branch’s national and position rankings, as well as his 247Sports Composite grade are similar to Eric Stokes’. We all know how Stokes turned out.

With 313.34 points in this cycle, Georgia has a solid lead over Alabama and Clemson. The recruiting arms race in the SEC is as hot as ever. Seven SEC programs are ranked in the 247Sports Top 10. Ten programs are ranked in the top 30. No other conference has more than five programs in the top 30.
