Georgia football: 2020 signees most likely to contribute this season
Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge (Offensive tackles)
The offensive line took the biggest shots with Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson and Solomon Kindley leaving early for the NFL Draft, and Cade Mays turning his back on Athens to join Tennessee.
That leaves four holes in Georgia’s offensive line depth chart. Recruiting success on offensive line in recent years will allow Georgia to fill some of those spots with talent, but offensive tackle is almost depleted. Ben Cleveland is the only returning offensive tackle, and he’s dealt with injuries through his career.
But reinforcements are on the way with Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge. They are two of the top three offensive tackles in the 2020 class thanks to their size and power as both have some work to do fundamentally. But the upside is evident and they are playing for one of the best offensive line coaches in the nation in Matt Luke.
Ratledge’s larger frame and developed footwork will lend itself to the left tackle position. He’ll need to meet with all of the quarterbacks to build chemistry. They’re all right handers, so they’ll rely on him to protect their blind side. Jones is a bit smaller and is a force in basketball, so clearly he brings a bit more athleticism to the position. He’s a little more raw and needs to work on pass protection. The aforementioned Luke is the perfect coach for them to make quick strides before the 2020 season begins.
