Georgia football: Bulldog fans’ five favorite players, besides Herschel Walker
3. Todd Gurley – Running back
It would have been free money to bet that Todd Gurley would be somewhere on this list. Gurley brought a countless number of memorable moments during his time in Athens. One of the more memorable ones being his return from suspension against Auburn when he took the opening kickoff 105 yards to the house. Unfortunately, the play was negated by a holding penalty but that didn’t stop Gurley from carrying the ball 29 times for 138 yards that game.
Gurley was the type of player where everyone felt at any given moment he could take one to the house. From the first moment Gurley set foot in Sanford Stadium people knew he would become something special. His first collegiate score was a 100-yard kickoff return for crying out loud!
The Baltimore native put together a tremendous career at Georgia racking up 3,285 rushing yards, 42 total touchdowns and averaged 6.8 YPC over his three-year career. Many argue that Gurley was on track to add the Heisman trophy to his list of accolades before his suspended for four games his junior season.
He has continued to find success at the next level after he was drafted 10th overall in the 2015 NFL draft by the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams. Since joining the team Gurley has been selected to the All-Pro team three times, named the league’s offensive player of the year in 2017, and offensive rookie of the year in 2015.
