Georgia basketball travels to Vanderbilt Saturday looking for its second victory in as many games. The Bulldogs are yet to win consecutive games in SEC play this year.

Despite only having a .500 record and an abysmal SEC record, Georgia basketball actually enters an SEC game as the favorites with all the momentum.

Georgia (13-13, 3-10 SEC) is back to .500 after upsetting the No. 13 Auburn Tigers at home Wednesday night. Vanderbilt (9-17, 1-12 SEC) have lost their last four games and did have a nine-game losing streak earlier in the year. However, their lone conference win was a huge upset over LSU on Feb. 6. That win snapped a 26-game losing streak in the SEC dating back to last season.

Statistically, Georgia and Vanderbilt are pretty even with the Bulldogs getting the edge in most categories. They outscore the Commodores 75.4-71.6; out-rebound them 38.4-32.7; and average 13.7 assists per game versus Vanderbilt’s 11.7. Both squads allow 74.3 points per game.

The key stat for any recent Georgia basketball game is turnovers. The Bulldogs are averaging 15.2 giveaways per game after some careless play in recent games. The Bulldogs committed an embarrassing 21 turnovers in the loss to Texas A&M and 19 against South Carolina. Vanderbilt is not an opponent to play carelessly against. The Commodores average 7.15 steals per game.

Turnovers aren’t the only worrisome stat for Georgia basketball Saturday. The Bulldogs aren’t good away from Athens. They haven’t won on the road since Jan. 4 at Memphis and have lost six-straight road games, all in the SEC. Georgia is 1-7 this season in true road games and, when you add the Maui Invitational, 2-9 in games away from Athens. One of those road wins was an impressive upset, but the other was a nerve-racking game against Chaminade, a Div-II school.

Georgia and Vanderbilt tip-off at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. That game is on the SEC Network. A win over the Commodores would give Georgia much-needed momentum for its game against South Carolina on Wednesday.
