Georgia Football: It all started with the running back
By Ashley Espie
Herschel Walker
Growing up in New England, Kevin Kuzia’s first exposure to Georgia football came through its greatest running back of all time— Herschel Walker. As Kuzia pointed out, Hershel Walker was “the story of the season” and he was instantly captivated by watching him play.
“He had a quiet excellence to him,” said Kuzia. “The way he would run full steam ahead with such power and speed. Knowing he also did track when not playing football, despite being so physically imposing. All of that was what made me so fascinated with him.”
Kuzia became a Dawg fan for life. Later, while Walker was with the New Jersey Generals, Kuzia wrote Walker a letter and received a signed photo of the running back “in some sweet red and black Adidas gear” in return.
Since then, Kuzia has shared his love of the Dawgs with his nephews in Connecticut, talking about Georgia football with them, making sure they had Georgia jerseys to wear, and watching games together, including the recent heartbreaking loss in the National Championship.
Despite the lost two years ago, the future looks bright for the Bulldogs. And just like the rest of the members of the Georgia fan base; Kevin Kuzia, Ryan Forsyth, and Axel are all looking forward to seeing the Dawgs suit up and play between the hedges, once again lead by their running backs.
The Bulldog Nation is a unique fan base full of history and touching experiences and I want to share your story.
