Georgia football returns to the practice field on Mar. 17 to begin spring practices. The spring concludes with the G-Day scrimmage on Apr. 18.
Georgia football makes its long-awaited return in just two weeks. The 2020 Bulldogs begin preparing for the upcoming season with a series of 14 practices over the course of six weeks. All of those practices lead up to the big G-Day Game intersquad scrimmage at Sanford Stadium on Apr. 18.
The Bulldogs will use spring to move on from a large group of departing players. Coaches are looking for players to take over for Jake Fromm, Lawrence Cager, Tyler Clark, J.R. Reed and other star players no longer with the team.
More importantly, the coaches are looking for new leaders. Some players like Richard LeCounte III and Monty Rice are already primed for leadership roles, while others will surely step into those roles as the spring progresses. Some of the players to follow this spring are Malik Herring, Eric Stokes, James Cook and Demetris Robertson. All players with several years of experience under their belts as either starters or key backups.

However, the biggest story to follow this spring is the upcoming, three-way quarterback battle. Who will rise above the other’s this spring. Early enrolling true freshman Carson Beck? Experienced graduate transfer Jamie Newman? Scout team superstar Stetson Bennett III? Will Dwan Mathis have his redemption story? How about walk-on transfer Austin Kirksey?
For the first time since 2016, Georgia doesn’t have a clear-cut starting quarterback entering the spring, and it’s been even longer since so many capable starters were in Athens at once.
The spring is also the first time on the Georgia practice field as players for six other players, five signees and one graduate transfer. First the transfer, tight end Tre McKitty, formerly of Florida State. McKitty had 241 yards on 23 catches last season as a Seminole. In three seasons in Tallahassee, McKitty caught 50 passes for 520 yards.
The early enrollee making most of the headlines is running back Kendall Milton. He was a top 100 player and the No. 7 running back according to 247Sports Composite. Joining Milton in Athens is cornerback Jalen Kimber (No. 104 overall), safety Major Burns (No. 180 overall), wide receiver Justin Robinson (No. 297 overall) and defensive tackle Warren Brinson (No. 309 overall).
