Georgia basketball: Best of the Bulldogs in the 2019-20 season
Player of the Year: Anthony Edwards
Without a doubt, the best player on the Georgia basketball team was one-and-done freshman Anthony Edwards. The Atlanta native averaged a team leading 19.1 points per game and he was second on the team with 5.2 rebounds per game.
Edwards earned a lot of hardware in his one season in Athens. He won SEC Freshman of the Year and is a member of the First Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team. He’s also one of five finalists for the Jerry West Award (best shooting guard in the nation).
Edwards was one of the few constants for the Bulldogs this season. In 32 games, he scored in double figures 27 times, and at least 20 points 13 times. Edwards also had 15 games with at least five rebounds.
But it was the games where Edwards struggled to score where his star may have shined the brightest. He only scored six points in the SEC Tournament win over Ole Miss, but he made four assists and revelled in a role as a set-up player. When he only scored six points against Delaware State, he had a season-high seven assists.
Despite playing just one season as a Bulldog, Edwards is one of the best to ever play for Georgia basketball. He was a great scorer and a great team player. Georgia basketball is going to miss the “Ant-Man.”
