Incoming recruiting class
The 2020 Georgia basketball recruiting class doesn’t have the mega-star the 2019 class did, but the new crop of Bulldogs are nothing to scoff at. Tom Crean builds onto his program with a pair of four-star prospects who can grow into future stars, and a pair of junior college transfers who’ll add maturity and college experience to Georgia’s roster.

The 2020 recruiting class is headlined by four-star point guard K.D. Johnson who chose Georgia basketball over Auburn, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech. Johnson is ranked No. 87 overall by 247Sports Composite and No. 17 out of all point guards in the nation.
The 6-1 standout has no shortage of confidence, telling 247Sports, “I see myself being a point guard, coming in early, being a great defensive guy. Not necessarily running the team, but having a huge impact as a freshman coming in.”
The other high school signee is power forward Josh Taylor. He chose Georgia over in-state rival Georgia Tech and conference foe LSU. Taylor was originally classified in the 2021 recruiting class, but he’s reclassified into the 2020 class and will join the Georgia basketball squad this year. Taylor is the No. 117 player in the 2020 class and the No. 23 power forward.
From Eastern Florida State College, the Bulldogs receive Mikal Starks and Jonathan Ned. Both are top 10 JUCO players ranked No. 4 and No. 8 respectively. Starks is a point guard and he adds depth to Georgia’s perimeter which loses freshman Anthony Edwards, and seniors Tyree Crump and Jordan Harris.
Ned is a 6-9 small forward and he’s bigger than the other small forwards on Georgia’s roster. Unless Rodney Howard can quickly develop into a starting center, Ned will probably play more as a power forward, allowing Toumani Camara to play his natural position of small forward.
Georgia’s 2020 recruiting class might not even be finished. Tom Crean and co. are still recruiting several highly touted players, namely Norcoss product J.T. Thor and McEachern star Dylan Cardwell. Thor is Taylor’s teammate at Norcross. He’s ranked No. 51 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Cardwell is ranked No. 160.
Georgia basketball currently has the No. 24 class in the nation according to 247Sports. The possible signings of Thor and Cardwell would bump Georgia up to No. 10 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC, ahead of Auburn and Florida.
