Georgia football: Los Angeles Rams release Todd Gurley, what’s next for the former Bulldog
The Miami Dolphins recently added Jordan Howard to possibly be its starting running back. But the Dolphins require a running back overhaul which Gurley can help with.
The group of running backs the Dolphins had before adding Howard aren’t going to cut it as they were last in the league with 72.25 rushing yards per game. Even with injuries, Gurley is step up from of that group.
Howard is a proven, and capable starter, but he’s coming off a 2019 season where he has limited him to just 10 games and four starts. The 2016 Pro Bowler had a career-low 525 rushing yards last year. Howard has never been a true bell-cow, averaging 16.5 carries per game, so there is room for Gurley to be more than just a third-down back in Miami.
Though again, Gurley to the Dolphins all depends on what Miami wants to do in the NFL draft. Miami has three first-round picks and with a need for running back depth, possibly a starter for the future, why not use one of those picks on a running back?
But the Dolphins have other needs such as offensive line and a quarterback that it could choose to invest in. If that’s the case, Miami could go with Gurley as a backup in the short run and worry about bringing in that future star running back later on.
