Georgia football: Next possible Bulldogs to enter the College Football Hall of Fame

Thomas Davis only became eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006, but he is a shoo-in sometime soon. In fact, Davis will likely be the first Georgia football player since Fran Tarkenton to join both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

First, Thomas Davis the Georgia Bulldog. He was a headhunter in every sense of the word as it pertains to football. Few players hit with more force and aggression as Davis. A forced fumble or dropped pass was not too seldom a result of a hit from Davis.

Davis was Georgia’s leading tackler in 2003 (130 tackles) and 2004 (81 tackles). In his career, he made 272 tackles with 17 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks and 27 quarterback hurries.

In his two best seasons in Athens, the Georgia football defense only allowed an opponent to score more than 20 points seven times.

Davis has added to his legacy with an elite NFL career spanning 14-plus seasons, most of which with the Carolina Panthers. Davis has made 1,210 total tackles with 90 tackles for a loss and 29 sacks. He is a two-time All-Pro with three-consecutive Pro Bowls from 2015-to-2017.

His awards expand to off-the-field work as well. In 2014, Davis won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and he added the Bart Starr Award to his trophy case in 2016.

For his outstanding Georgia football career and his exemplary work off the field, Thomas Davis checks all of the boxes for the College Football Hall of Fame. It would come as a surprise if Davis didn’t join the hall of fame before the end of the decade.
