3. Electrifying run in the rain against Kentucky

Perhaps no play defines D’Andre Swift as a football player more than his fast and physical run against Kentucky in 2019.

You talk about a frustrating football game, a frustrating day for that matter. Heavy rainfall made conditions miserable for everyone involved, especially the two offenses. Georgia and Kentucky entered halftime tied 0-0 and the Bulldogs only had 118 yards of offense one-possession through the second half.

Something had to give and fortunately for Georgia football, that something was the Kentucky defense. D’Andre Swift was the force that caused the Wildcats to falter.

Finally, with 6:22 left to play in the third quarter, Swift had a hole to run through on a sweep out of the shotgun. After two and a half seasons of watching the “Philly Flyer” play in Athens, everyone knew what he was capable of with a little crease, but no one expected Swift to deliver the way he did.

Two Kentucky defenders met Swift six yards past the line of scrimmage. One grabbed his ankles from behind, the other attempted to wrap him upfront. With one spectacular spin move, Swift made both men miss. Only one defender had a chance to keep Swift from scoring, but all he could do was give him a little shove. The push didn’t both Swift, he kept his stride going in the right direction to score the first touchdown of the game.

Swift’s run changed the emotions of Sanford Stadium. A crowd tired of watching a boring, frustrating ball game in the rain, suddenly came alive. That play, and the way he ran made fans proud to say they attended the game. Georgia’s offense came alive as well, scoring twice more while the defense preserved a shutout. Georgia won 21-0.
