When you talk about the Georgia football program, you talk about running backs, and 2020 freshman Kendall Milton may be the next big name to come out of that group.

Kendall Milton is going to be a beast.

Just putting that out there right now. The highly-coveted running back from Clovis, Ca. is going to be that guy who bursts on the scene and has the folks over in Bristol, Ct. mentioning his name on the air a lot.

While many fans and analysts will be looking at Zamir White, James Cook, and Kenny McIntosh — the incumbent group of running backs on the team — you have to think that the 6’2 human Humvee known as Kendall Milton could possibly outshine his teammates.

Milton is a freshman and one of the early enrollees in the Georgia football program this year, and he’s taking his job as being part of a historical lineage of running backs seriously. He’s on campus and already being noticed from his hard work in the weight room, beefing up from 216 to 227 pounds since he got to Athens back in early January.

The Buchanan High School start is a big guy, and a load when he gets going downhill. But unlike a lot of taller running backs, Milton doesn’t run upright. He has incredible balance and gets a nasty lean into his running when he hits the line of scrimmage, giving would-be tacklers very little to grab for such a big target.

Is Kendall Milton just a 4-Star talent who will get limited touches?

Starting with his rating, Milton is much more than a 4-Star back and is probably definitely more than the 7th best running back prospect in the country. His rating was actually higher at one point — as high at the number 21 overall player in the country during his senior year — but because he didn’t participate in any of the All-American Games, his rating suffered (one more reason those rankings are misleading).

Will he get a chance to show what he can do? Absolutely.

Despite there once again being some incredible depth at running back for Georgia, you can probably count on Milton getting his touches this season and they’ll likely increase as the year goes on.

In past seasons, this may not have happened, but with Todd Monken now in control of the Georgia offensive playbook the Dawgs may run multiple-back sets more often than they have in the past.

While at Southern Miss and the Cleveland Browns, Monken didn’t play favorites. He’d line up multiple RBs in the backfield and rotate players in and out for situational running. That said, when a running back really separates himself from the crowd, as Nick Chubb did in Cleveland, Monken will reward him with increased carries and a more featured role.

This could play out perfectly for Kendall Milton. If he’s rotated in to provide some fresh legs and give one of the starters a rest, he could prove himself in a hurry. Milton is a homerun threat every time he touches the ball. As seen in the video above, once he gets into the second level of the defense, the size and strength give way to a burst of speed and some nifty jukes.

Milton may not begin the year as a starter, but don’t be surprised if he wins the job before the Bulldogs meet up with Auburn on October 10. Either way, he’s primed to be a guy mentioned with some of the greats if he lives up to the potential he’s already shown.
