UGA football offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson joined teammate Andrew Thomas in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Wilson heads to the Tennessee Titans as the No. 29 overall pick.

UGA football had sent 75 offensive linemen to the NFL going into the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night, but never had two Bulldog linemen been selected in the first round. That changed when the Tennessee Titans used the 29th pick to draft Isaiah Wilson.

Wilson, a right tackle, becomes the 77th UGA football offensive linemen drafted into the NFL after the New York Giants picked Andrew Thomas fourth overall earlier in the night.

The first-round draft selection is the latest in a long line of accolades earned by Wilson who redshirted his first season in Athens. Wilson’s time with the Bulldogs includes freshman All-American honors in 2018 and All-SEC honors in 2019.

Tennessee is the perfect home for Wilson. He is a great run-blocking lineman and the Titans love to run the ball with the outstanding Derrick Henry. Tennessee was third in the NFL last season in rushing yards because of how head coach Mike Vrabel has built the team around Henry.

Wilson is a little raw in some areas, and his NFL draft profile paints him as a work in progress, but Wilson is a coachable player and teams had to be impressed by how quickly he became a stud in the SEC after his redshirt season. At least one team was, or else the Tennessee Titans wouldn’t have drafted him in the first round.

Wilson’s trajectory in college is possibly what the Titans hope to emulate. Tennessee doesn’t need a right tackle for the present, the offense is solid as-is. The Titans already have Dennis Kelly at the right tackle helping create room for Henry to run. While the passing game isn’t prolific, quarterback Ryan Tannehill doesn’t make many mistakes either.

The Titans are looking for their right tackle of the future, a guy to develop and mesh with the current offense and be ready to break out as soon as he earns the starting role. Just like how Wilson waited behind Isaiah Wynn during his redshirt season, he developed in Georgia’s system and had a break out year when he earned the starting job.

The first day of the NFL Draft wrapped up with two Bulldogs finding new homes. The second and third rounds on Friday will likely feature many more UGA football players. D’Andre Swift is surprisingly still on the board. Jake Fromm is penciled into the third round of most mock drafts. Solomon Kindley and J.R. Reed are other players who could hear their names called on Friday.
