UGA football: Closer look at the Bulldogs 2020 running backs
Career UGA football stats:
72 carries, 472 rushing yards, 4 TD
24 receptions, 221 rec. yards
James Cook is a junior who has played in nearly every game since coming to Georgia in 2018. The younger brother of former Florida State and current Minnesota Vikings star, Dalvin Cook, there was a lot of pressure on Cook to replicate the kind of success big brother had as a Seminole.
The Miami native has been good, though somewhat unspectacular, with a few flashes of the type of running many expected to see regularly from Cook.
It could be he’s a back who simply needs more carries and gets stronger as the game goes on, but he’s been unable to really work his way into a bigger role in the Georgia backfield with guys like Swift and Holyfield getting the bulk of the carries for the last two seasons.
If ever Cook had an opportunity to really show that he’s the premier running back the Dawgs recruited, this would be it for him. There’s a lot of talent in the UGA backfield but no one has really claimed the top spot in the group yet.
