The Redcoat Marching Band

These guys and gals do not get the recognition they rightfully deserve. They create the environment at Sanford Stadium. Every chant the fans say starts with them. They are the heart and soul of UGA football. From the first note of the Battle Hymn trumpet solo to their last note played they set the tone.

One of my all-time favorite songs that the Redcoats play is “Junkyard Dawgs,” which is played after a sack or tackle for loss. To this day I wanna run through a wall every time the band starts that one up. Another favorite is “Dies Iraee,” which is played when the Bulldogs line up on defense for third or fourth down.

If these guys can’t get you going I don’t know what to tell you. A UGA football game just wouldn’t be the same without them. The game-day atmosphere wouldn’t be as hype without them. Halftime would be just a 20-minute dull silence without them. To me, bands are what separates college football from the NFL and makes the experience a lot better.

The Redcoat Marching Band is one of the best in the nation and another reason why Georgia football is a must-see event on Saturdays in the fall.
