Running Back U

The first player to catch my eye when I watched Georgia football was Garrison Hearst. I instantly fell in love with the running back position and it is still my favorite position to this day. At the time I was too young to know the history of that position at Georgia, but I would soon learn. Georgia has had many thoroughbreds come to UGA since.

I have only been to one game in Sanford Stadium, so far. However, that game just happened to be Homecoming 1992 against Vanderbilt. The same game where Garrison Hearst ran for a career-high 246 yards.

Hearst is far from the only special running back to play for Georgia. From Charley Trippi to Herschel Walker to D’Andre Swift, UGA football seems to always have a special athlete at the running back position. This upcoming season is no exception with Zamir White, Kenny McIntosh, James Cook, and Kendall Milton in the backfield. Georgia’s running game will once again be one of the best in the nation.

Not only has Georgia had great college running backs, but they have also excelled once they reached the NFL. Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb are two of the best running backs in the NFL today, while Sony Michel broke the rookie postseason touchdown record. Swift hopes to add his name to that list at the next level as well this upcoming season.
