UGA football news: Baker’s possible libel suit against Dunbar’s lawyer
Former UGA football cornerback Deandre Baker was recently accused of armed robbery. As that case falls apart, a new case involving the lawyers of Baker’s alleged accomplice forms.
While defending former Florida Gator defensive back Quinton Dunbar in the ongoing armed robbery case, attorney Michael Grieco allegedly posted screenshots of text messages and photos that imply fomer UGA football player Deandre Baker attended and participated in an illegal gambling party at a hotel in Miami.
The Twitter post has Baker’s attorney’s heated. One of Baker’s attorneys, Patrick Patel, told the New York Post he plans on filing a lawsuit against Grieco for libel and slander. Patel called the post “deceitful.”
The party is where Baker and Dunbar reportedly lost around $70,000, creating a motive for their alleged armed robbery just days later. Grieco posted screenshots of text messages sent to Dunbar that seem to prove his absence from the party, and thus, without a motive for armed robbery.
The photo included in the screenshot is of a man sitting at a table with a large stack of cash and another man standing with a smaller stack of cash. The man standing was supposedly Baker. However, Patel claims the man in the photo looks nothing like Baker based on the size of the man’s arms and his tattoos.
Patel went on to claim he has video evidence proving Baker was not at the gambling party and he said Baker left the residence where the alleged robbery occurred after hearing a “ruckus” from elsewhere in the residence.
Baker and Dunbar recently pleaded not guilty of the armed robbery charges. The case remains ongoing, but recent developments suggest the case against the two NFL players is breaking down.

Georgia Football: Was Andrew Thomas a reach for New York Giants? [Dante Pryor – Saturday Blitz]
"The Giants clearly wanted Thomas and he was their guy. If he’s who they wanted, then God speed, and you hope he’s an anchor for a decade. However, if he flames out and Simmons becomes an All-Pro, everyone is going to consider this a reach."
Kirby Smart may break every coaching record at Georgia [Michael Collins – Southbound and Down]
"The fact that he held out until Georgia was ready for a new head coach should be an indication that he has no intention of leaving UGA, and will probably need to be dragged away when his time is done. This is simply the right place for Kirby Smart, but the question begs, is it the right time?"

"“I believe it’s a little too early to tell whether we’re going to open on Labor Day with a packed house or a sparse crowd or no crowd at all,” Kemp said. “I know everybody wants to have a crowd there. I would urge people to continue to follow the guidance so we can drive these numbers down so that we can do that, but we stand ready to work with them.”"
