The details of Todd Monken’s three-year UGA football contract was recently revealed. The contract expires in 2023 and features annual raises.

UGA football is placing a lot of faith in new offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Georgia’s contract with Monken lasts three seasons and he’s guaranteed a raise at the end of each season.

Monken will earn $1.1 million in his first season with UGA football, 1.25 million in the second year and 1.4 million in his third year. If Monken leaves for an NFL job before the end of his second season, he’ll owe Georgia $400,000, but he’ll only owe $200,000 if he leaves after the second season.

Hopefully, Monken is worth every penny. The Georgia football program and fanbase feel like its an elite offense away from a national championship. Georgia failed to score 20 points in each regular season loss since 2017. The Bulldogs lost to LSU 37-10 in the 2019 SEC Championship Game and the offense was completely stagnant in the second half of both losses to Alabama.

Georgia has more than enough talent on offense to produce an elite offense, it just needs a scheme that properly uses the talent. That was a constant complaint of James Coley’s offense as talented players like James Cook, Zamir White and Demetris Robertson seemed to be neglected.

The program has reason to have faith in Monken. He brings a stellar resume to Athens as a college and NFL coach. Most of his success has come at the college level. His last college job was as head coach at Southern Mississippi from 2013-to-2015. The year before Monken took over, Southern Miss went 0-12.

In Monken’s last year, the Golden Eagles finished 9-5 and played in the Conference USA Championship Game. Staring quarterback Nick Mullins passed for over 4,400 yards. Running backs Ito Smith and Jalen Richard both rushed for 1,000 yards and Smith had over 500 receiving yards. The team also featured a 1,300-yard receiver and two more receivers with over 700 yards. Southern Miss’ offense averaged five touchdowns per game.

Monken also had a successful stint as offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State (2011-2012) and as the passing game coordinator at LSU (2005-2006).
