UGA football has a deep and talented stable of running backs this season. The member with the least media attention is sophomore Kenny McIntosh.

When you’re as wealthy at the running back position as UGA football is, some of your players, regardless of how good they are, will go unnoticed. Case in point; sophomore Kenny McIntosh from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

McIntosh was the No. 11 ranked running back coming out of high school, yet he receives the media attention of a three-star. Of course, it’s hard to stand out when you share a stable with D’Andre Swift, a veteran Brian Herrien, Zamir White and James Cook. Kendal Milton’s commitment and subsequent signing didn’t help bring attention to McIntosh either.

If McIntosh wanted the college football world to notice him, he had to step up and make them notice. He was given an opportunity to do so in the Sugar Bowl, with Swift, Herrien and Cook all injured. McIntosh made the most of that opportunity, complimenting White well with 4.3 yards per carry on six handoffs with a few first down runs.

Kenny McIntosh is all effort. McIntosh is not an elite athlete, he doesn’t have great speed or flashy agility, but he makes up for it with work ethic both on the field and in the weight room. McIntosh is a strong running back at 6-1, and 210 lbs. He brings that power to his running style, building momentum after the handoff and always lowering his pads on contact.

That’s not to say McIntosh is slow, he does have some speed as evident by his long touchdown run against Arkansas State. But his biggest runs will come against worn-out defenses. Fortunately, his running style is perfect for wearing down defenders.

McIntosh isn’t the starter in this stable, he might not ever start a game for UGA football, but he’ll always contribute. He’s too good not to have some kind of important role in this offense. Expect a good year with respectable numbers out of McIntosh in 2020.
