Wide receiving corps led by George Pickens

Newman now has a more talented cast around him and is expected to do big things at Georgia. One player in Newman’s new cast that will help him take his game to the next level is George Pickens. Pickens caught 49 passes for 727 yards and eight touchdowns. He didn’t drop a single pass all season.

Athlon Sports named Pickens on their Breakout Players list and their All-SEC Second Team. Lindy’s Sports has Pickens as its No. 10 wide receiver in the nation and named him to their All-SEC Second Team. There is no doubt that George Pickens is one of the most talented wide receivers in college football today. He was the highest-graded wide receiver that lined up on the left hash in college football last year.

Pickens isn’t the only talented wide receiver on Georgia’s roster either. Dominick Blaylock, who is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in the SEC Championship Game, returns for his sophomore season. Blaylock caught 18 passes for 310 yards and five touchdowns in 2019, and he should have a more significant role this season when he makes his return. His 17.2 yards per catch was better than anyone else on the team with at least 15 catches.

When talking about Georgia’s wide receivers, you can’t forget about Demetris Robertson. Robertson transferred to Georgia from California in 2018. Last year he caught 30 passes for 333 yards and three touchdowns. He is one of the fastest athletes on Georgia’s roster and helps the offense stretch the field. His 11.1 yards per catch from last season should see some improvement with Newman throwing instead of Fromm.

Not only does Georgia return some excellent receiving options, but they also brought in the No. 2 wide receiver group this recruiting cycle, according to Lindy’s Sports. (Rankings from 247Sports Composite).

All of this talent is why Athlon Sports rank Georgia’s wide receiver group No. 11 in the nation and Lindy’s Sports ranks them No. 10.
