Georgia Football: The Dawgs are back, and not a moment too soon
By Ashley Espie
Georgia football fans, rejoice! The Bulldogs and SEC football are finally back.
2020 has been a rough year for everyone, Georgia football fans included. From the coronavirus and social injustices to personal struggles and hardships. Depression, despair, and division have been inescapable.
But in the last few weeks, something has shifted. The weather has cooled just enough to hint at the nights under the lights to come, and the wind has begun to transform from a gentle summer breeze to the forceful gusts that keep flags flying high and footballs soaring through the air.
The sun slants through the trees at just the right angle, promising to shine on green hedges and painted end zones if we’re ready to watch.
And we’re more than ready. Georgia football fans are past ready. The slow return of sports has been a soothing balm for our hurting souls. The collective breath we’d been holding for months slowly released as one sport, one conference, one team after another successfully started back up.
And now, we’re not just relieved, we’re excited. The sparks of hope that helped us through the spring and summer have grown into a fire, lighting the way for fall Saturdays full of golden sunshine and cool nights under the lights.
Baseball might claim to be America’s game but there’s nothing like football in the fall. It’s touchdowns and turnovers, hope and heartbreak wrapped up in one unforgettable experience.
It’s team colors, conference rivalries, and all lines fading away in the light of our shared hope and love for the game. Because in football, anything is possible. Any given week can turn the impossible into reality. Once that ball is snapped, any play can become legendary.
That’s why we love it. It’s why we wait through spring games, summer media days, and all the quiet weeks in between. United by our love for the excitement, the possibilities, and the shared camaraderie, we keep coming back to football every fall and the hope it offers. Because there’s nothing else like it.
No matter how dark the night, hope always rises, ready to shine on green hedges, silver britches, and a chapel bell ringing through the night.
Fall is here. And Georgia football is back y’all.
