Georgia football finds its quarterback, beats the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

Georgia football has officially found its quarterback. J.T. Daniels finally made his debut against Mississippi State and he absolutely went off. Daniels completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns. He did not turn the ball over a single time. Daniels’ favorite target was Jermaine Burton who had his coming-out party. Finally having a quarterback that could get it to him he had eight catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns.

Burton was just eight yards shy of breaking the single-season record at Georgia for receiving yards, unfortunately, he was injured and had to leave the game.

George Pickens was back as well as they hooked up on Daniels’ first pass attempt as a Bulldog. Pickens would finish the game with eight catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Kearis Jackson also added four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. There was also a Demetris Robertson sighting who added three catches for 45 yards. Daniels hit eight different receivers on the night.

However, the rushing offense was non-existent, coming up with just eight yards on the ground. There were a total of 23 carries by Georgia’s running backs, for just eight yards. Zamir White got 11 carries and got just 21 yards on those carries. James Cook had seven yards on four carries and Kenny McIntosh had five yards on three carries. Daniels lost 21 yards on three sacks.

The offensive line remains a question mark as the run game continues to struggle and quarterbacks, no matter how tall, continue to have their passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. This group has got to get on the same page.

As good as the offense looked, Georgia football’s defense struggled once again. Mike Leach’s offense marched up and down the field on Kirby Smart‘s defense. Will Rogers lit up Georgia’s secondary to the tone of 41 completions on 52 attempts for 336 yards and one touchdown. Jalen Walley was his main weapon as he put up 115 yards receiving and a touchdown on seven catches.

It is clear that Georgia football’s defense misses Jordan Davis and Richard LeCounte. The middle of the defensive line is struggling to get any push and the secondary looks lost a good bit of the time. Georgia’s defense misses their quarterback and is in dire need of LeCounte to get back in the lineup. That may not happen this season, even though he is fighting to get back.

Georgia gets the win in an ugly game, but they have plenty to work on. One thing they will not be worried about this week is who their quarterback is. Daniels is clearly the guy from here on out and the marriage between him and Todd Monken looks like it could do special things before the season ends.
