Georgia football gets revenge against South Carolina.
Last year Georgia football was ranked the No. 3 team in the country as they welcomed in unranked South Carolina. Georgia struggled to move the ball against the Gamecocks and even turned the ball over multiple times. The game would eventually go to overtime, which Georgia would lose on as Rodrigo Blankenship missed a field goal.
Fast-forward to this season as Georgia, this time ranked No. 9 in the nation and on the road, got their revenge. Georgia football got their offense back on track in Columbia. JT Daniels picked up right where he left off. In the first quarter, he completed five of the six passes he attempted for 74 yards and a touchdown. He ended the game completing ten of 16 passing attempts for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
Daniels did throw an interception to end the first half, but it was a bobbled ball by Kearis Jackson that was caught by a defender after it was juggled by Jackson. However, it wouldn’t be fruitful for the Gamecocks and Azeez Ojulari would sack Jake Doty to end any last-second threat from the Gamecocks.
True freshman Arian Smith finally made his debut for the Bulldogs. On his first catch of the season, he torched South Carolina’s secondary for a 34-yard touchdown. There will be plenty more of that to come from the speedster as he may just be the fastest player in the SEC at this time.
Georgia football’s running game was working a lot better this week than last. In the first quarter, Georgia ran it 14 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns. James Cook had 98 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries in the first half alone. Georgia’s running backs would combine for 332 yards averaging 7.2 yards per carry and score four touchdowns. Cook contributed a total of 104 yards on six carries with two touchdowns.
The defense stepped up as well. In the first half of the game, the Gamecocks only converted three third downs out of eight. South Carolina was only able to get 156 total yards in the first half while putting up just ten points. The Gamecocks ended with a total of 273 yards and 16 points.
Jalen Carter stepped it up in this game, blowing up the middle of South Carolina’s offensive line. He totaled three tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hurry, and blocked an extra point. Lewis Cine led the defense in tackles with 12 and Tyson Campbell was the only defender to grab an interception.
From start to finish this was a dominant performance by Georgia football. They went into William-Brice Stadium and they took care of business. They owed the Gamecocks a butt-kicking and they delivered. They to move on to Vanderbilt next week as they try to keep this momentum going.
