Georgia football wide receiver Trey Blount has entered the Transfer Portal.

Former four-star wide receiver Trey Blount entered the Transfer Portal on Monday. The 6-2 200 pound receiver from Atlanta went to Pace Academy and committed to Georgia football back in 2018. In his three seasons in Athens, Blount has played in 35 games, but he started in just one. Most of his appearances were on special teams, in fact, as a receiver he has just four catches for 52 yards.

Blount is now the second former four-star to enter the Transfer Portal after quarterback D’wan Mathis entered the portal last month.

While at Pace Acadamy Blount caught 57 passes for 1045 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 18.3 yards per catch. He was quite the star and that is why the 247 Composite gave him a 0.8919 four-star rating.

Blount had been buried on the Georgia football’s depth chart by the emergence of George Pickens, Dominick Blaylock, Jermaine Burton, Kearis Jackson, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, and Arian Smith. There is just one ball to go around and it becomes difficult to keep so many pass-catchers happy. However, that is how it goes when you recruit as well as Kirby Smart does.

Looking into 2021 it doesn’t look like Blount was going to crack the starting lineup again and he felt like it was time for him to go. It makes sense for him to go somewhere he feels he will get a chance to play. No point in wasting your entire college career playing special teams or sitting on the sideline when you know you have the talent to play at this level.

Sometimes it just comes down to the numbers at a position and guys get pushed out. It’s unfortunate, but it happens. Best of luck to Blount, wherever he winds up. Hopefully, he lights it up and earns himself a spot at the next level. Wherever he ends up he will be a great ambassador for Georgia and Atlanta. Here’s to new beginnings Blount, go show off and show out.
