Georgia football target, cornerback, Nyland Green has made his decision.
Nyland Green of Covington, Georgia has been a priority target for Georgia football since Kirby Smart offered him back on November 8th of 2019. Green stands 6-2 183, he is a lengthy cornerback that is rated a 0.9685 by the 247 Composite which makes him a four-star. Rivals.com has him rated as the ninth-best cornerback in this recruiting class, 247 has him as their second-best.
Green had been committed to Clemson earlier in his recruitment, but he became the first recruit to decommit from Clemson since 2014.
After decommiting from Clemson, Green has decided to stay home and attend the University of Georgia for the next three to four years. Green gives Smart and his crew a very long and athletic cornerback who can match up outside with the most skilled SEC wideout. Getting to compete in practice against the likes of George Pickens, Dominick Blaylock, Kearis Jackson, Marcus Rosemy, Jermaine Burton, and Arian Smith will only sharpen his skill.
Green announced his commitment on Twitter:
Georgia football has already received commitments from 247’s No. 3 cornerback David Daniel, their No. 18 cornerback Kamari Lassiter, and their No. 1 Junior College cornerback De’Jahn Warren, and their No. 51 cornerback Javon Bullard. These guys are coming in after Georgia brought in the No. 1 cornerback Kelee Ringo, the No. 9 cornerback Jalen Kimber and the No. 51 cornerback Daran Branch in the 2019 recruiting cycle.
However, in the present landscape of college football, you cannot have too many talented and athletic defensive backs. College football is going away from the old school smashmouth football. Instead, it is being replaced by high-powered passing games making it a top priority for defenses to have three to four dynamic cornerbacks that can counter these aerial attacks.
With Georgia football possibly losing Eric Stokes, Tyson Campbell, and DJ Daniel this upcoming season Green is a huge get in this class. Smart and company are pushing towards their usual strong finish to this recruiting cycle. With Early Signing Day just eight days away and with 20 recruits now committed it looks like Georgia will once again finish in the top three in the team recruiting rankings.
