At this point, Georgia football should be used to being disrespected.

The College Football Playoff’s final rankings are out. Alabama came away ranked No. 1, Clemson came in at No. 2, Ohio State snuck in at No. 3, and Notre Dame crawled in at No. 4. However, after those four teams, the rankings get weird. Texas A&M came in at number five, which makes sense, but then Oklahoma comes in at No. 6, over Georgia football who comes in at No. 9.

Oklahoma has improved since their loss to Kansas State, however, you could use that argument for Georgia as well. Since JT Daniels has taken over at quarterback the entire team is playing differently. Of course, it also helps to have a guy like Jordan Davis back on the defensive line also. Let’s take a look at Georgia’s and Oklahoma’s body of work, starting after the Sooners loss to Kansas State and after Daniels took over at quarterback.

Georgia with JT Daniels at quarterback:

41.7 points per game

498.3 yards per game

7.57 yards per play

18 points given up per game

Oklahoma last three games:

31.7 points per game

384.3 yards per game

5.94 yards per play

16 points given up per game

How is Oklahoma’s body of work better than Georgia football’s? Oklahoma lost to Kansas State and Iowa State, who lost to Lousianna. Georgia has only lost to Florida and Alabama, two teams that went blow for blow with one another in the SEC Championship game. Both of whom have proven to be two of the best teams in the country this season.

There is no reason a two-loss Big Twelve Champion should be ranked over Georgia just because they won their conference. When you put the two team’s resumes side by side it is obvious who is better, or at least who is playing better right now. Georgia football would beat Oklahoma on a neutral field right now and that is a fact.

Georgia will instead play No. 8 Cincinnati on a neutral field, Mercedes-Benz Stadium to be exact, in the Peach Bowl on January 1, 2021.
